The Poodle Skirt

The Poodle skirt was one of the most popular forms of dresses back in the 50’s.  This wide swing felt skirt with its solid colors more then likely powder blue or pink that displayed an appliquéd of a poodle right on the front of the dress.

Later years the appliquéd changed from a poodle to several other designs like flamingos, flowers and even hot rod cars.  Unlike most of the dresses today the poodle skirt had a hemline right below the knee.

My mother tell stories when she use to go to dances at her High School and dance the night away in one of these skirts.  Still today this skirt remains one of if not the most memorable symbols dated back to the 1950’s American History.
